Stephen Helgeson, Director of Outdoor Programming
I began working for Alaska Crossings as the “Director of Support Services” in the fall of 2002, bringing a background in administration, backcountry and marine tripping and facilities management to the team.
Before becoming the program director in 2011, I occupied a number of administrative positions and performed many administrative functions relating to the operation of the program including serving as program manager, logistics coordinator, assistant director, shop manager, AICS facilities manager and jet boat skipper.
Working to help at-risk youth is personally rewarding for me. I am sincerely committed to our mission, “Helping Youth Succeed”, and I have the good fortune of working with a committed, intelligent and highly motivated staff in order to make that mission a reality.
In my role as director, I am responsible for the overall direction, growth and sustainability of the program.
In my “free” time I enjoy building acoustic guitars, cooking Chinese food and sailing.
