Jerrie Dee Harvey LPC, Clinical Director
I have worked in various capacities in the field of wilderness therapy, I have been with Alaska Crossings since May of 2011. I worked at an established wilderness therapy program in the desert of Idaho for several years prior to working at a residential boarding school in central Oregon. After being away from wilderness therapy, I was drawn back to working with youth in an outdoor environment which lead me to Alaska Crossings.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and hold a Master's degree in Counseling from Colorado Christian University. I have found a passion to walk along side of troubled youth and their families. I have experience working with young people in an outdoor setting and utilizing initiatives, experience, and adventure as therapeutic tools for process and development. I enjoy the privilege of educating parents who have struggling teens in wilderness and the opportunity to move them away from a place of crisis and into an atmosphere of hope.
I have two passions: people and the outdoors. For me, hiking and being outdoors has always offered a sense of inner stillness. I pursued a career in wilderness therapy where I could marry my two passions. Challenging situations bring to the surface elements of people that nothing else will, it strips them of their pretense and allows them to be raw. People’s lives can be changed when they are in this tender and vulnerable state and that is where I wish to meet them. Alaska Crossings offers an intense and beautiful environment for youth to seek understanding of themselves and others. I am blessed to have the wonderful outdoor office in South-East Alaska.
When I am focusing on administration work, I operate primarily as a directing clinician, facilitating individual and group therapy in the field. I am also responsible for some telephonic family therapy as well as supervising and directing clinical aspects our field guide team are implementing in the field daily.
I love to fish. Since being in Alaska, I have found a new craving for Halibut and Salmon. I spend a lot of my time enjoying walks with my dog and buddy, Jack. During the wet and dark winters, I find myself deep in books or sewing quilts.
