Crossings Wilderness Expeditions for Youth is a 46 day experiential program for children dealing with mental health issues. Our program is based in Wrangell Alaska; however, our programs take place in the Tongass National Forest and on the majestic Stikine River. Each program has an ocean canoe expedition, a hiking/mountaineering expedition and, a river expedition (seasonal). This is the framework in which our staff works on individual treatment goals. Each expedition has a total of 9 participants and 3 staff who are trained in both wilderness skills and behavior and group management. It is our goal to give kids the skills they need to deal with the challenges in their lives and help them find support and direction when they return home.

"I came to Crossings not because I wanted to but because I was forced to by my probation
officer. I hated the fact that I had to come. As the days went on I was kind of happy to be
here. I‘m not saying it was easy, it was definitely not. It was hard to come into a group of
people I didn‘t know who expected me to express my feelings to them.... I learned how to
express my feelings in an appropriate way and communicate my concerns with other people
maturely. My out look on Crossings made a 180 degree turn. I knew I was starting to like it. I
was building friendships with girls and I made really good friends here." - 15 year old participant
