FLOAT (Float Learning Opportunities and Academic Triumph) School is a unique experiential education opportunity for native youth from Craig, Klawock, Hydaburg, Wrangell, Metlakatla, and the SE Island School District. During the ten-day curriculum, students study a variety of subjects from marine biology and local history to ocean navigation and costal canoeing. An expert staff team of wilderness educators engage students with hands-on projects and activities designed to be both fun and educational.

For those who want to investigate even further afield, there is a special month-long FLOAT school expedition during the summer. This trip includes a hiking expedition to the Edziza Plateau in British Columbia and then concludes with a paddling trip down the Stikine River.

"I think I‘ve improved myself in a lot of different ways like my attitude towards things, I try and look on the bright side of things and not always the bad and before I came I guess you could say that my glass was always half empty and now that I try and look on the bright side I think that will help me in a lot of ways when I get home." - 15 year old participant
