FLOAT School · Adult Wilderness Education Programming · Contract Education Programming
Our Wilderness Education Programming for youth and adults emphasizes hands on, experiential
learning experiences in the rich and diverse environment of Southeast Alaska. Learning opportunities
abound here where the coastal rainforest meets the Pacific Ocean. The abundant marine and
terrestrial landscapes, combined with Native and European history, is an ideal setting for
experiential learning. Through direct experience and critical analysis, students increase
knowledge and understanding of the world around them and develop crucial academic, social, and
life skills. Observing and studying the complex relationships of the natural world - whether
through the lens of a microscope or from the seat of a canoe - helps students understand their
own relationships with themselves, others, and the world around them.
We offer three types of Wilderness Education programs: FLOAT school, Adult Wilderness Education
programming, and Contract Education Programs. Read on and find out which program could work for you.

"While I‘ve been here I‘ve been working on a lot of different things like how to express what I
am feeling and not holding it in. It‘s taken a lot of practice and I am finally getting the hang of it.
Another thing I‘ve been working on is my anger and trying to take it out in a more productive
way then I have in the past I‘ve come up with a few ways that I am going to practice when
I get home that will hopefully keep me out of my old ways." - 15 year old participant
