Bonnie Shewmaker LPC/LMFT, Clinician
I began working for Alaska Crossings as a Clinician in 2014, bringing a background in education, counseling, behavioral therapy, and clinical supervision. I have worked with youth and families for over 10 years as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
Before coming to Alaska Crossings, I served at-risk youth as a classroom teacher, behavioral specialist, school and mental health counselor, and wilderness field supervisor. My belief is that it is best to intervene early in the lives of youth in order to help them succeed in life. I find it especially rewarding to be part of that effort to impart knowledge, skills, encouragement, and hope to youth.
As an Assessing Clinician I assist onsite-clinicians by performing assessments (as needed) in order to determine whether or not Alaska Crossings is a good fit for the immediate clinical/behavioral needs of potential youth participants. I write treatment plans for those youth participants who qualify for the program. I confer with onsite, directing-clinicians and other staff to ensure that individual needs of potential youth participants are addressed during program.
In my free time, I like watching movies and reading. I like haunting 2nd hand and antique stores, and going to auctions.
