10-day FLOAT School
While you're at FLOAT School you will learn all types of different things about the environment, yourself and working with others! Some things you'll learn about include plants and animals in the land and in the ocean. You will learn how to use different types of technology like night vision goggles and underwater digital cameras. Another great part of FLOAT School is getting to meet Tlingit elders and learn about story telling, tradition and culture. On top of all of this you will be a contributing member of a group, living and working together to accomplish some FLOAT School goals and to have fun!

During FLOAT School you get to stay at our floating Marine Research Station, eat delicious meals that you will learn how to prepare, and conduct experiments in the lab. We will teach you how to paddle a canoe in order to explore and collect samples, critters and specimens to investigate. We supply you with all of the equipment and gear that you'll use while exploring the environment. All you need to bring is a desire to learn new things!

30-day FLOAT School
This FLOAT School program is a little bit different from our 10-day program. When you come on the 30-day FLOAT School you still learn about the world around you, but rather than being based at the Research Station you will:
  • Explore and investigate volcanoes and their lava fields while hiking in British Columbia, Canada
  • Use mountaineering gear like ice axes and avalanche beacons
  • Paddle the Stikine River where you will learn about animals, glaciers and much more
  • Canoe along the coast of Southeast Alaska while discovering information about the marine and forest environments
  • Meet with Native Elders to learn about the Native culture of the interior
After completing this program you will be one of the very few people who are able to say that you have paddled the mighty Stikine River. You will have made friends from other communities, explored some really cool areas of Alaska and Canada, learned about native culture, and be the proud owner of your very own paddle! Click on this link for a list of things you need to bring.
