Alaska Crossings offers a 51-day wilderness behavioral health program for youth age 12 to 18. We are
based out of Wrangell, Alaska, with our programs taking place in the Tongass National Forest, along
the Stikine River and in Mount Edziza Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada. Typically each trip
includes three expeditions: a hiking expedition, a river canoeing expedition and an ocean canoeing
expedition. This is the framework in which our guides work with our participants on their individual
treatment goals.
Each group is composed of approximately nine participants and three field guides. This small
participant-to-guide ratio enables our field guides to give each participant individual attention
and care, while still attending to the needs of the group as a whole. Through skills development,
participants learn to use their personal strengths and abilities to manage challenges in their
daily lives. Our goal is to help youth return to their home communities with the skills and
resources they need to succeed in life after program.
